The Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo is a kid's place to think, create and play. All Junior Museum and Zoo exhibits allow children to become physically involved and immerse themselves in the essence of life, to poke, to prod, to pull, to pick up, and to smell. The Zoo is home to more than 50 exotic and native animals, of which at least half are brought into classrooms as part of the Junior Museum and Zoo's science outreach program with local schools. Some of the animals include bobcats, raccoons, jungle bats, hedgehogs, ferrets, snakes, and an owl. Admission Free. Donations accepted and appreciated. Groups of 10 or more: Please call 650-329-2111 to make a reservation. - At the Zoo: Creek Habitat
Fifteen Cubic Meters of San Francisquito Creek displays a cross- sectional view of this last remaining natural creek running through Palo Alto. Careful attention was paid to include native plants, accurate rock sizes and five varieties of fish, crayfish and other water creatures for a realistic portrayal of the creek in its natural habitat.
- At the Zoo: Bat Habitat
A newly renovated bat habitat is now open on the zoo grounds. It is home to three African fruit bats and two Egyptian fruit bats. These "flying foxes" are larger than our native bats and eat only fruits and vegetables.
Science Outreach Programs Extensive programs are offered to augment the science curricula in the local schools. Classes featuring live animals, fossils, solar power and slime are all part of the exciting repertoire that ranges from astronomy to zoology. Free science programs are provided to select schools in East Palo Alto due to the generous support of various local organizations.
